I woke up, this morning, with full intentions to wrap up this short story business. I have had several emails asking where the rest of Flawless is and I am sorry. After the last post, I found myself getting lost in the world I was creating in my newest work in progress. I did finish the first draft but then I found myself lost in the world of revisions. For you non-writers you have no idea how life consuming this can be. So, I am terribly sorry for the neglect of Flawless. This week (late at night when the world sleeps and writers sit at their desks typing away) I intend to finish Jason and Bree’s story but I warn you it isn’t going to be wrapped up with only 2,000 more words. I just don’t think I am capable of “short story” writing.
As I research literary agents and focus on getting my finished/polished manuscript picked up, while I finish revising and editing my newest manuscript, I find myself lost in other worlds so often that I forget to come up for air and enjoy life around me. Somedays I wonder if it is even worth it. Should I just write these stories for me (because if I don’t write them, the characters will overtake my brain and drive me insane with their relentless voices) and forget about sharing them with the world? Ah, but then I remember some of my favorite quotes that always seem to fire me up and keep me going strong….
“You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them. – Michael Jordan (yes I was a 90’s teen)
“When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us. – Alexander Graham Bell
“I can’t write a book commensurate with Shakespeare, but I can write a book by me, – Sir Walter Raleigh
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent” – Eleanor Roosevelt
Be it writing, painting, diaper changing, dish washing, bill paying, or even tire changing we are all fighting for that dream. If we stop now or decide we can’t reach that dream then we have just wasted the gift of life. Expect great things of yourself and keep looking for the open door.
In the words of my brilliant eight year old daughter ”Peace Out Ya’ll”
